While her paintings may include identifiable forms such as dragonflies and flowers, they never hide their identity as paintings because McConville is infatuated with the brushstroke and the emotive qualities of color. Though demonstrating varying degrees of abstraction and showing a wide range of influences from van Gogh to Pollack, these paintings always exhibit movement. Flowers move, not as a result of the wind, but from exuberance, and even "Yoga Contemplation" is frenetically energized.
McConville's brushstrokes are aggressive and confident, almost athletic. McConville is also well-versed in color and changes palettes from painting to painting with chameleonic facility. When viewing her divergently styled paintings collectively, one might get the sense that she is in a hurry, afraid that she might forget another idea that she has just had. In possession of such extensive artistic skill, McConville is able to meet the multifarious demands of her protean imagination.
